Here’s some promising news for Apple Watch owners who have Apple Watch Ultra screen envy: the Apple Series 10 watch may feature the same size screen as the company’s 49mm outdoorsy watch. This upgrade could come with additional improvements, such as a thinner case and a new chip that might “lay the groundwork for some AI enhancements down the road,” according to Mark Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter for Bloomberg.
The screen rumor aligns with a CAD render from last month showing a Apple series 10 watch with a two-inch display. Gurman notes that the watch is unlikely to have significant design changes. This means no new magnetic watch strap attachments, which is good news for those who have accumulated various watch straps over the years and want to keep using them with the Apple Series 10 if they decide to upgrade.
Regarding new sensors for the Apple Watch Series 10, things are uncertain. According to Mark Gurman, Apple is struggling with two major health sensor updates. The company hasn’t yet achieved the desired reliability for its rumored blood pressure monitor and is facing issues with its banned blood oxygen sensor, which is hindering efforts to add sleep apnea detection.
Apple is also planning a cheaper version of the Apple Watch SE to compete with Samsung’s $199 Galaxy Watch FE, possibly featuring a rigid plastic case to reduce costs and weight. This approach might benefit other Apple products as well, such as the Vision Pro.
Lastly, Gurman notes that Apple is planning to release a Watch Ultra 3, which will feature the new chip powering the Series 10, though significant visual changes are not expected.
